High School Special Education Transition Planning Goal Focused Mock Interview Template

Activity Objectives:

1-Teacher gathers information about students’ skills, knowledge, language proficiency, interests, cultural heritage, and special needs and note modifications, accommodations, or differentiated strategies that may support student success in the classroom.

2-Students apply skills from Transition Planning activities about job skills, job searching, interviews, and personal advocacy.

 

Part 1: Interview Questions: Ask these questions in a formal interview style.

Which school classes do you feel are your strongest? Why?

Which school classes are your weakest? Why?

What are your plans for after high school?

Do you speak any other languages other than English?

How would you rate your ability to speak different languages at a job or new school?

What are your interests and hobbies outside of school?

What would you say your talents are?

What is your family’s cultural heritage?

What is your favorite way to learn new information?

Can you remember a teacher or class you really enjoyed? Describe that.

Please describe your disability and any accommodations you need to help you succeed.

Do you have any questions for me about school, this classroom, my work, or your plans after high school?

 

Part 2: Interviewer Evaluation: Make notes after or during the interview that should be discussed in the feedback session. Circle Agree or Disagree and explain briefly.

The interviewee was dressed appropriately. Agree or Disagree

The interviewee spoke clearly and with confidence. Agree or Disagree

I learned new things about the interviewee. Agree or Disagree

The interviewee maintained good eye contact. Agree or Disagree

Part 3: Interviewee Self-Evaluation: After the interview, the student must complete a self-evaluation that is similar to the interviewer evaluation. In the feedback session, these notes are compared and used for discussion.
